A Carlsbad bride made a unique stop at GlenBrook before tying the knot. Moments before her nuptials on November 22, Tamara Zack visited her grandmother, Joan Jeske, a resident at the Health Center. Jeske was unable to attend the ceremony due to the pandemic.
The GlenBrook team worked with the bride and her grandmother to coordinate the event. This is one of many opportunities for residents to stay connected during the pandemic.
“Right now, what we’re looking for is normalcy,” said GlenBrook life enrichment director, Lorena Morales in an interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune. “This is just giving loved ones (the ability of) being part of their family’s special day, but keeping the residents safe, which is our main goal.”
Zack said she’s always looked up to her grandmother, and she couldn’t miss the opportunity to see her on her special day.
“I think when you love your grandma so much, you need her to be included, no matter what the circumstances,” Zack told CBS8.
The two visited with one another outside the main lobby of the community. They exchanged letters, did a champagne toast, and enjoyed a wedding cake created by The GlenBrook Health Center dietary services manager, Leslie Hornback.
“She’s a very sweet young lady,” Jeske said in an interview with CBS8. “She’s always been sweet. I got to see her grow up and turn into this lovely young lady. I’ll have all these lovely pictures to remember [the wedding]. I’m just thrilled,” said Jeske.
